Guideline for Safer Urban Road Design Focusing on Pedestrian Safety (Part-1)
This Guideline is prepared under the “Road Safety Management and Capacity Building Project” Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), Road Transport and Highways Division, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the Client of the project. The Accident Research Institute (ARI) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), represented by the Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation (BRTC), BUET carried out the key activities of the project as the Consultant. The project was inaugurated on 23 July 2020 and is accomplished by April 2022. One of the main objectives of the project is to develop “Guideline on Safer Urban Road Design Focusing on Pedestrian Safety” This document is the draft final volume of the guideline. The guideline is prepared considering the well-established road safety audit practices from both developed and developing countries. This guideline has documented the design principles, pedestrian design elements, pedestrian safety at school, at work zone, designing Special innovative facilities, roles and responsibilities of organizations in managing pedestrian safety and templates. This guideline is expected to serve the tenet for urban road design improving safety problem in particular VRUs safety activities from now on.
