Policy Formation Public Safety in The Vehicle - Road Safety Management and Capacity Building Project
In Bangladsh public transport system is not developed as planned rather it evolved by some scattered initiatives of some people without any prior criterion and policy. For this reason, various problems are been raised and safety in the vehicle is the main concern nowadays. Like all other countries in the globe, passenger safety especially safety for women is a challenge for the authority of Bangladesh. Most of the cases, women are not willing to travel by public transport due to feelings of safety concern. Besides, child and older people safety is little emphasized in public transport. Government asked the transport companies to save 9 seats for the women, children and older people but did not been respected most of the cases due to the poor monitoring system. Moreover, in transport industry of Bangladesh, the main concentration is getting as many passengers as possible and safety is a thing to forget.
There is a growing demand to ensure the safety of the passengers in public transport in Bangladesh after observing some unexpected events. Public transport imposes a higher risk for the passengers since there happen to be more passenger. The problem become worse in the country due to the lack of a policy and strategic action plan for public safety in vehicle.
In this task, a set of recommendations for the formation and adoption of the policy for public safety in vehicle will be proposed based on the studies conducted in this project.
